preferential distribution of rutile

There are two predominant phases in this glaze, a glossy transparent phase, and an opaque matte phase. The addition of 1 % Cobalt Carbonate, results in a dark classic cobalt blue color in the glossy phase, and a cobalt green commonly associated with the presence of rutile in the matte phase. We conclude that the rutile in the glaze is concentrated in the matte phase.
