same glaze - different clay

on a stoneware bowl ~ 5 inches in diameter
on a porcelain plate ~ 7 inches in diameter
I was wondering if on stoneware this glaze was acquiring iron out of the body. body. Alternatively, on porcelain, was the glaze absorbing silica? I tested a variant of this glaze with additional iron on the porcelain body. Then I also tested a variant with additional silica on the iron body. Here are the results. It would seem the results are not consistent with either hypothesis. OTOH, this experiment produced interesting new glazes, which take a different sort of leaf print.
