cobalt colors

Glazes are fired at cone 6 in an electric kiln.

The kiln is cooled slowly, at a rate of 25 deg F an hour in the temperature interval 1750 deg F to 1650 deg F, with a 1 hour hold at 1650 deg F.

Here are two groups of glazes all with an addition of 1% cobalt carbonate. All of the glazes contain similar amounts of MgO, and minimal CaO.

The glazes in the first group contain ZnO, but no SrO. The glazes in the second group contain both ZnO, and SrO.

This is an exploration on the colors produced by Cobalt carbonate in glazes with low CaO.

The glazes in the second group, containing both ZnO and SrO show prominent pink regions. The glazes containing no SrO, show only hints of pink.
