Clay body is a grolleg porcelain from Tacoma Clay Art Center.

Appearance of leaves

We show leaf prints on glazes which range from transparent full gloss to stiff white matt.
As with water color paintings, where the texture of the paper is everything, the primary determinant of the detail which is seen in the leaf is the glaze beneath.

Observe that the matt inclusions in mixed matt and gloss multi-phase glazes shows as leopard spots in the leaf prints.

The leaves on the stiffer glazes which have a matt phase show more detail in the leaves, and veins, also the veins are sharp, as if drawn with a rulling pen.

glaze composition

These glazes have moderate alkali metal, the numbers in the Empirical or Seger Formula:

Alkali metal ~.51
molecular % silica between 60 % and 67 %

TiO2 .17

All but two of these glazes contain SrO.

Alumina varies from .45 to .55

Silica varies from 2.5 to 3.5

Leaf Wash

There are two leaf washes, they are:

# 1. Custer Feldspar + Red iron Oxide

# 2. EPK Kaolin + Red Iron Oxide

Each leaf has #1 wash on its top half, # 2 wash on its bottom half.

The pots are smll conical bowls 3 - 4 inches in diameter.
