Iron On Iron

This is an exploration in matching colors and textures between the background glaze and the second glaze which is used for the design.

A design using satIron_ZT_W_0 as inlay, on mashiko_Z19_1 had an interaction layer equally prominent as the glaze itself.

I decided to explore the interaction layer, as second glaze. As a first guess I generated the glaze for an empirical formula half way between
those of the two glazes satIron_ZT_W_0 and mashiko_ZT_1.

I used this new glaze, named satIron_ZT_mashiko, for the inlay on mashiko_Z19_1, and also on another saturated iron glaze,
nepheline_Z1A_2.

For reference, I show a tile with the new inlay glaze satIron_ZT_mashiko, and expect to test it as a glaze in its own right.

The design is a mask cut from shelf paper, affixed to the pot before the background glaze is poured. The dry pot is coated with
an emulsion wax. When dry the mask is peeled, and design filled in using an ear syringe.

60 deg F an hour to 2310 deg F with a hold of 20 minutes at 2310 deg F

Down Fire Profile

A half hour hold at 1750 deg F

A three hour hold at 1700 deg F

slow downfire at 25 deg F an hour in the interval 1700 deg F to 1650 deg F

A one hour hold at 1650 deg F

The cones show this as a cone 10 firing.
