iron colors

Here is a high alkali metal saturated iron glaze with a high alkaline earth inlay glaze. The background
glaze is satIron_ZG_7_MLiAlk; the inlay design is glazed with oribe-woof-munge.

The background glaze is variegated, and comprised of red, orange and metallic coppery micro-crystals
in a tan ground. This is seen in a close-up of the background glaze.

The design is created by adhering a mask and then applying the main glaze. After drying,
the mask is removed and the open area filled in with a second glaze, using a bulb syringe
with a needle applicator.

The matrix (i.e., background) glaze and inlay glaze do not overlap before firing. The width of the
original inlay varied from an eighth of an inch to three eighths of an inch.

The background and inlay glazes nearly abut; and the design didn't broaden particularly, yet the
distance of the interaction region exceeds the width of the inlay.

The black edge of the inlay is the effect of the inlay glaze on the iron of the background glaze.
This black color is seen beneath the coppery colored micro-crystals of the background glaze for a
distance almost the width of the inlay. Tendrils of dark green extending within the inlay from its edge
show iron diffusing into the inlay from the background glaze. This is shown in close-ups of
the glaze and inlay.
