the background glaze flows through parts of the inlay leaving behind
small disconnected islands. The micro-crystalline clusters in the fluid
matrix of the background glaze
carve ragged accents through the inlay as
they plow through. These clusters act similarly to boulders in a
mud
flow. The patterns of this flow are seen in the close-up images of the
interaction region.
original inlay, which varied from an eighth of
an inch to three quarters of an inch, is considerably thicker than my
usual inlay.
